Curtz Violins 01.jpg

In 2000, I secured a full-time five year apprenticeship with violin maker Edward Curtz in Kingston, New York. I developed my skills while assisting with building, repairing and restoring violins. During my apprenticeship, I continued to build mandolins and also restored early Gibson mandolins.

Following my apprenticeship, I established a mandolin workshop in Ithaca, New York. Inspired by a 1923 Lloyd Loar F-5 in my care, I devoted two years of invaluable study to design the Harris F-5 mandolin. In 2009, I accepted a position to head the violin restoration workshop for Stamell Stringed Instruments in Poughkeepsie, New York. I’m grateful to be part of the talented Stamell team, where I continue to hone my skills restoring antique violins, collaborate with brilliant luthiers, and passionately build Harris mandolins.
